DALLAS-FORT WORTH and BANGALORE (December 16, 2021) – U.S. airports will soon have the ability to potentially enhance retail sales by double digits and serve their customers better, with new data-capture tools that help airports manage their retail operations more effectively, through a partnership announced today by Dallas-based Hospitio Consulting and Services and GrayMatter, based in Bangalore.
After successful implementations in Asia and in South America, GrayMatter is bringing its groundbreaking Store Sense system to U.S. airports, and expanding to additional Canadian airports. Hospitio will serve as GrayMatter’s representative in North America.
Store Sense uses proprietary point-of-sale and data analytics technology -- across an airport retail landscape that often has hundreds of outlets -- to help airports and vendors understand in real time what customers are buying, where they are buying, and when. Airports and stores can then use this information to assess and improve sales, revenues and operations immediately, rather than relying, as they do today, on sales data that can be weeks and even months old, not to mention the onerous task of account reconciliation.
In addition to capturing data from individual concessionaires, Store Sense can provide real-time data on sales across general categories, such as purchases of food, electronics, books, etc.
The Store Sense system is in place in major airports in India and Colombia, where GrayMatter has demonstrably shown an increase in airport retail revenues and profitability by as much as 3-6 percent and sales by as much as 12 percent, while also reducing lost revenue caused by inefficiencies or lax inventory and staffing controls.
GrayMatter CEO Vikas Gupta said the system has proved invaluable in helping airports manage through COVID-19. “We are already helping airports around the globe respond quickly to the significant impacts that COVID has had on passenger traffic, and thus on airport retail commercial contracts. The new commercial contracts are driven with the philosophy of risk and reward sharing between concessionaire and airports, and are structured with higher revenue sharing model and lower rentals. Some airports have also adopted a progressive revenue share model and revenue per passenger model,” he said. “When we emerge from the COVID area, this technology and our analytics will be critical for managing concessionaire contracts and performances. The technology will also help and enable a contactless shopping experience and higher value share of the passengers. We are delighted to bring it to the U.S. and to additional locations across Canada.”
Hospitio Chief Operating Officer Christian Fleischer said “Store Sense is proving its worth in major airports around the world, and we are looking forward to working with GrayMatter to introduce it to the U.S. and across Canada.”
Hospitio and GrayMatter also plan to introduce GrayMatter’s parking revenue management solution for airports, giving airports real-time data to better manage the customer’s parking experience while optimizing revenues.
